Craig Dontas is looking to secure a race win at the Gold Coast 600
CRC Racing’s Craig Dontas is ready to race back into the Championship Standings as he takes on the Gold Coast 600 Street Circuit for Round 7 of the 2016 Australian V8 Ute Racing Series.
The Gold Coast 600 is one that Dontas regularly finishes within the Top 5 at, but his attention is wholly focused on a Race win this time around.
“We’ve been at Gold Coast every year since 2011, we’ve had top 10’s and top 5’s but have never snuck through for a podium so the aim is to have our best result there ever and we are going to win those championship points.”
Friday will host two practice sessions and qualifying to determine the start for Saturday’s Race 1 which will be followed by rolling grids for Race 2 and 3.
Mount Panorama saw a damaging crash in the opening lap of Race 2 which the Sieders Racing Team rushed to fix the car in time for the final race.
The #45 Car then had lacked speed and returned to the workshop for some minor alterations following the Bathurst 1000 before the South-East Queensland Round this weekend.
“There were a couple of things that weren’t right following the crash, it was more about getting the car right for the next race more than been the quickest on track at Bathurst. It’s gone back to the workshop and we’ve replaced a lot of components that we didn’t know that were damaged. They’ve gone through the car with a fine tooth comb and fixed some minor things that should get the car back up to where it should be.”
Dontas is sitting in 4th place overall coming into the second last round of the series, trailing Ryan Hansford in 3rd by 60 points.
If Dontas reaches second in the Championship it will bring the Sieders Racing Teams to the top of the standings to claim a 1,2 finish for 2016.
“Really aiming for those championship points, we would need a lot of luck to take out the championship title so we are aiming for second to finish off with the sieders team for the 1,2 in the championship.”
Dontas will head to the Gold Coast 600 in the coming days for Round 7 of the 2016 V8 Ute Championship from October 21-23 with all races to be televised LIVE on FOX Sports.
